On the morning of July 30, the Press Conference for China International Big Data Industry Expo 2024 (Big Data Expo 2024) was held at the Beijing Conference Center. At the press conference, Shen Zhulin, Deputy Director of the National Data Administration (NDA), provided an overview of the Big Data Expo 2024.
Shen began by reflecting on the history of the Big Data Expo. As the first major international data expo, the Big Data Expo has been successfully delivered for nine editions since its first edition in 2015, with the upcoming one marking its 10th anniversary, he said. In 2018 and 2019, General Secretary Xi Jinping sent congratulatory messages for two consecutive years, providing a fundamental guideline for the development of the data industry, and illuminating the path for the success of the expo.
Over the past decade, the Big Data Expo has been guided by the philosophy of "global vision, national level, industry perspectives and corporate standpoints", focused on the overall theme of "Data Creates More Value, Innovation Brings a Better Future", accelerated the aggregation of data resources, promoted deep integration across industries, improved the capacity for technological innovation, and comprehensively promoted the high-quality development of the digital economy. During the period, the Big Data Expo has welcomed participants from over 60 countries, with a remarkable increase in on-site attendance from 13,000 in 2015 to 180,000 in 2023, and online engagement has surpassed 10 million. Industry exchanges have consistently targeted hot issues, hosting 350 major thematic activities over the years. The exhibition has been a showcase of highlights, with leading data companies from around the world taking part, and the exhibition space has expanded from 40,000 to 60,000 square meters. Through years of development, the Big Data Expo has developed into a prestigious international gathering of industry elite, a professional platform setting the pace for cutting-edge trends, as well as a business cooperation platform pooling global resources.
The Big Data Expo 2024, hosted by NDA and organized by the Guizhou Provincial People's Government, is scheduled to take place in Guiyang, Guizhou Province from August 28 to 30, with the theme "Smart Digital Technology Shapes Thriving Digital Economy".
Shen explained that this year's Big Data Expo follows the optimization and adjustment of the national data work system, and serves as a vital tool for promoting the high-quality development of data endeavors. He hoped that the expo would further propel the high-quality development of the digital economy, to fully unleash the potential of data elements, ensuring that all participants gain substantial benefits from their involvement.
Shen introduced the Big Data Expo 2024 in detail, noting that the expo will consistently reflect the theme of "high-quality development of the digital economy", with specialized exhibitions centered around six key areas: digital industrialization, industrial digitalization, data valuation, digital governance, new digital infrastructure and data security. Additionally, important guests from governments, companies, universities and research institutes will be invited to deliver keynote speeches, and a series of distinctive activities such as industry exchanges, achievement release and the "Data Element ×" Competition will be held concurrently. Besides, as this year marks the 10th anniversary of the Big Data Expo, a variety of activities have been elaborately planned, including "'Decade of Big Data Expo' Achievements Exhibition", "'Decade of Big Data Expo' Retrospective Visit" and "'Decade of Big Data Expo' Field Exploration".
At the session of achievement release, relevant state departments will roll out a suite of significant policies, alongside the latest industry research reports, technical standards, typical cases and pilot test results. Additionally, an array of cutting-edge technological achievements will be selected, covering advanced fields such as large models, data elements, data security and cloud computing. Participating companies will also unveil a range of new products, technologies, projects and scenarios. Shen expressed his aspiration for increased corporate engagement in the marketization and valuation of data elements, to share more development opportunities and benefits.
Shen also disclosed that the operation model of the Big Data Expo will be more market-oriented this year. Centered on companies, through business cooperation, companies and events, we will conduct investment promotion specific to industry leaders and major big data companies, both domestically and internationally. Moreover, the Big Data Expo 2024 will be distinguished by its efficiency, frugality, practicality and safety, aiming to deliver a distinctive and productive event.
Furthermore, the Big Data Expo 2024 will feature a variety of special activities that emphasize innovation and expertise, leveraging the expo's role as an open and shared platform for international exchanges and cooperation, as well as resource aggregation. Activities such as Big Data Night Talks, Data Night, and big data observation and experience will be carried out to promote international and regional exchanges and cooperation in the data sector.
With less than a month to go for the opening of the Big Data Expo 2024, Shen noted that preparations are underway in an intense and orderly manner. He extended an invitation to all walks of life to closely follow and actively engage in the event, to visit and experience firsthand the wonders of a "digital journey".
